When students reach 6th grade they have the ability to choose an instrument to perform in the School Band, or to take vocal class with the School Choir. This continues through 8th grade.
School Band – Instrumental Class
This class is ensemble based made up of a wide range of instruments. Students will be able to choose from any of the following:
Strings ( Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass)

Brass (Trumpet, Trombone)
This is an instrumental based class in which the students learn to perform in a group utilizing skills in note reading, and instrumental techniques. Students are able to experience various performance opportunities for Christmas and spring concerts at OLA. Performance is the main focus of this class, however, the students will learn aspects of music theory, and history through the performance of the selected repertoire.
School Choir – Vocal Class
This is a singing based class in which the students learn to perform in a group utilizing part singing and harmonies. Students are able to experience various performance opportunities for Christmas and Spring concerts at OLA, and off campus performances at Claremont Manor for Fall and Winter. Singing in our choir offers an amazing introduction into how a high school choir functions, and provides the setting for students to grow in their self-confidence and abilities.
This class is all about percussion. The term percussion includes a wide range of instruments such as drums, pitched percussion instruments i.e. (xylophone, and glockenspiel), and auxiliary percussion i.e. (triangle, shakers, and cymbals).
The main focus is reading music rhythms, and learning other percussion techniques that can provide the students with valuable experiences that can carry over into future music experiences such as high school drumline and marching band.
