All 8th graders who are considering taking the HSPT in January are invited to attend this workshop hosted by Damien High School teachers.

About the HSPT Workshop:

Students, boys and girls, who participate in the HSPT Workshop will receive personal tutoring and hands on experience with the HSPT via sample questions. Many Catholic high schools utilize the HSPT to assess the strengths and weaknesses of prospective students in essential skills such as language and mathematics. The HSPT evaluates a student's abilities in mathematics, reading, and language.

There are five sections covered in the HSPT Workshop: Verbal Skills (synonyms and antonyms, analogies, logic, and verbal classifications); Quantitative Skills (geometric and non-geometric comparisons, and number manipulations); Reading Skills (the ability to understand central meanings and details of reading passages); Mathematics Skills (mathematical concepts and problem solving, arithmetic, elementary algebra, and basic geometry); and Language Skills (capitalization and punctuation, spelling, usage, and composition).

Students taking the HSPT workshop will be placed in a group of three to four 8th graders. Damien tutors, composed of primarily juniors and seniors, will guide students through each section. HSPT prep course takers will have 20 minutes to answer questions for each section, 10 minutes to review key questions with tutors, and will get two breaks along with a snack and a preparation guide to take home.

HSPT Workshop participants do not need to study ahead of time. All material will be provided to them after signing up. Snacks will be provided on day of workshop. Register your son for our December 7th workshop today!
