Intermediate Music Curriculum

                                             Music 4-5
When students reach 4th grade, the main focus becomes the performance on a recorder. The recorder is a fantastic instrument for continued learning with note reading, including pitch along with rhythm. The school is able to provide the instruments for the students the first year and the students are responsible for bringing them back the following year for 5th grade.

The second year of recorder moving to 5th grade becomes much more involved with the quality of performance on the instrument through the learning of musical expression. Musical expression qualities include phrasing (how one performs the notes as a piece of music, rather than as individual notes), and dynamics (how loud or soft the notes are performed).
The repertoire as the students continue also becomes more and more challenging as the year goes on.
