Admission and Registration Information
Our Lady of the Assumption School, an education ministry of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Community, is a parish-based K-8th grade Catholic Elementary School.
Our Lady of the Assumption School provides an education for children who incorporate strong academic skills, social awareness and personal responsibility, and ethical and moral values as taught in the Catholic faith. The School administration and faculty, in collaboration with parents, promote a learning environment, which fosters academic excellence, integrity, cooperation, and mutual respect.

Admissions
Our Lady of the Assumption School community seeks students and families who acknowledge the value and responsibilities of a Catholic parochial school education. Students will be accepted on the basis of their previous academic performance, placement test scores, writing samples, references, and, in the case of Preschool through Kindergarten, their maturity and school readiness. We adhere to the Los Angeles Archdiocese policy for non discrimination, which is posted and available on the school website.
Our in-house assessments for incoming students begin each year in February for the following academic year. Appointments are scheduled at a mutually convenient time. Your student meets independently with one of our teachers for a general assessment of their abilities, which usually takes about 30 minutes. All students and parents will then conference with a staff member following the formal test of skills. The cost of the assessment is $75.00 for each child. Payment is necessary for an appointment.
Prospective parents shall provide:
- National Standardized Test Scores for current and three previous school years
- Report cards from your child’s previous school (grades 1- 8) up to last three years
- A reference from previous school
Responsibilities and Expectations of Registered School Families
Our goal each year is to provide a quality Catholic education that best meets an individual child’s needs. Parents and teachers must work together for mutual support and understanding, recognizing that our lives reflect the goodness of God called to love and serve each other. We are blessed by your commitment to this mission. The parent student handbook is updated and published annually and contains a complete account of policies and procedures. The following is a summary of basic expectations.
Registered school families must:
- conform themselves to standards of conduct that are consistent with the Christian principles of the school, as determined by the school in its discretion. These principles include, but are not limited to any policies or procedures set forth in any student/parent handbook of the school.
- actively participate, attend and financially support Our Lady of the Assumption Church and/or a neighboring Catholic parish and church
- meet all financial and service obligations. Current details are posted on the school website
Continued placement for all children is probationary as we seek to meet their needs.
We strongly recommend that all new families visit the school. We offer to escort you for a guided tour of the classrooms and see our teachers and children in action. Open house is held annually during Catholic Schools Week. As the primary educators parents are encouraged to ensure that the programs and environment offered by Our Lady of the Assumption will be a good fit for your child. We expect that parents and children follow school guidelines with regard to support for the personnel, the school and parish.
While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student’s emotional, academic and physical abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the student’s needs.
